Meyer Family Racing visits with Darrell Marvel at the 2006 US Nationals

Darrell Marvel's 1968 HEMI Barracuda

I previously reserved the NHRA number "3426" for a future Super Stock ride, but I gave it up for Darrell and his Cuda. This gesture led to Darrell's inviting my Dad and me to his pits for the US Nationals. I think "3426" looks pretty good on there!

Darrell and Patti invited all of the Hemi Shootout teams and many other guests to their annual Bar-B-Que on Thursday night. That's Harry Holton in the red jacket, with Mrs. Holton in the foreground. Gary Jacob and a couple of other Hemi Super Stock drivers can be seen in this photo.

If Darrell ever gives up racing, he should open up a restaurant. He made some of the best filet one could ever have, and he did it under adverse weather conditions.

The next morning Darrell and Patti were nice enough to let us hang out with them. Hanging out in the Hemi pits during the Shootout was very exciting! We were just playing it cool when this photo was taken.

Darrell's awesome HEMI. Dad and I helped Darrell to change the ignition system out. I procured the plug wires from the Mallory Ignition trailer on the other side of the track. Man, was it fun to spend somebody else's money on this beautiful HEMI!

New cap, rotor, wires, etc. but the beast was still missing out in 3rd gear. Darrell still managed a fine 8.95 in the second round of eliminations, but it wasn't enough to get through to the next round.

Bonus!! Video of Darrell's 2nd round run vs. Jerry Jenkins...

Dad and I would like to extend our special thank you to Darrell Marvel, Patti, and Jerry. Despite the nasty weather we had a terrific time hanging out with you at Indy! Thank you for an Indy experience we'll never forget!

Working with Darrell on his HEMI Cuda was a great experience, but things got even more fun for Dad and me when we worked side-by-side with HEMI legend Harry Holton! Go to the next page to read about that...
